As the go-to social platforms descend into hell, we wanted to make a gentle point about how we recommend you follow us.
This last few years, we’ve been building a newsletter database. It’s never something we’ve hardcore pushed, but it’s there, and people sign up to it. It’s currently on about 4.5k subscribers, which isn’t crazy but is comparable to our followings on Twitter and Insta, and we do an annual sweep of it, so if someone hasn’t opened a mailer all year we remove them so as not to spam them.
This newsletter has always been something we treated with equal value to our social output, but it's now our priority. Twitter feels like the last days of Rome. Insta wants you to watch Zane Lowe interview Fred Again on an endless loop. TikTok is TikTok. None of these platforms are effective for a label trying to maintain a means of communication with its fans.
Then there’s the numbers. When we post on Instagram, on average 5-10% of you (approx 350 people) see it and have a chance to read it. When we mail something out, it goes through to 99% of your inboxes, and the average amount of you who open and read it is close to 50% (so over 2,000 people). You can see what we’re getting at.
This is all to say, if you’re a Local Action fan or just want to know what we’re releasing next, this newsletter is where you should follow us. We don’t spam, and we generally only email when we’re announcing a release – call it 10-15 mailers a year. Just as importantly, it means we can communicate with you like grown ups and not have to shoehorn record announcements into reels.
